Stay Comfortable Until Spring
Staying warm can be a challenge, especially as spring creeps closer. How can you get comfortably (and inexpensively) through the months between fall and spring? Here are a few tips.Let The Sun Shine
Open up curtains and blinds during the day while the sun is out, especially on south-facing windows. This takes advantage of the warmer sunlight to heat up your room. Close everything up at night to keep heat from escaping.
Close The Door
Shut the heater vents so youíre not heating rooms youíre not using. Keep the doors to unused rooms closed and be sure to block drafts at the bottom of the door to keep the cold from entering. Heat will flow to other rooms, keeping you warmer and saving money.
Wear Warmer Clothes
Layer up so you can be comfortable without bulk. Donít forget the socks and long underwear.
Use Electric Blankets
A fleece electric blanket will help keep you cozy at a fraction of the cost of running your furnace, and itís portable so you can move it with you from living room to bedroom.
Get With The Program
A programmable thermostat helps you keep your home at a comfortable temperature only when itís occupied. During the hours that youíre at work program it at lower temperature to save money.
This will help your house feel warmer and keep warm air from escaping as well. Proper weather stripping is the best way to go, but if itís not enough, there are alternatives.
