Reuse and Save

Find ways to save money all around the house simply by reusing old items or finding new uses for items we all have on hand. Try a few and see how much you can save without feeling the pinch.

Reuse old towels by cutting them down to washcloths, hand towels, or cleaning rags, depending on how old and worn they are. If theyre in good shape use them as washcloths and hand towels until they wear outthen throw them in the rag bag.

Make cotton bed sheets into a table cloth and napkins. Cradle sheets can become table doilies and handkerchiefs with just a few stitches. If the sheets are in bad shape, they can be cut down into cleaning rags.

Put scraps of bar soap in a plastic mesh bag, tie both ends, then take it in the shower and use it as a body scrubber to exfoliate head to toe. You can also put scraps in an old nylon and tie it to outdoor faucets so you dont have to run inside to wash your hands after gardening.

Wet a dryer sheet and use it to get rid of soap scum in sinks, showers and tubs. Theyre easy to use and they smell good, too. Dont throw them away after theyve done their job in the dryer, either. Used sheets make great dusting cloths and can be dropped in a dirty pan (along with some water) and left to soak to help remove stuck-on foods.
