Outfitting the Nursery

Awaiting a new baby is exciting and sometimes scary. There are many things to think about, not the least of which is getting the nursery put together in time to bring your little one home. There are all kinds of gadgets and decorating items available for todayís newborn, but Mom and Dad may be confused by the number of things available. Having a plan can help you feel less pressure, focus your efforts, and save money in the long run.

  • Outline The Basics
List the essential elements baby will need: crib or cradle, changing table, bedding and basic clothing. Almost everything else fall under extras and can be dealt with later. Keep in mind that items like crib bedding sets can help you get everything you need in one package, which will help cross items off your list more quickly.

  • Make A Budget
How much can you afford to spend? You want the best for your child, but if you donít have an unlimited budget youíll either have to live with less or sacrifice some quality. Itís good to know that items like clothes donít have to be expensive. Youíll feel better knowing you didnít spend a fortune when the baby spits up on a t-shirt for the fourth time in a day.

  • Stick To Your Plan
Youíll be tempted to pile on the extras, but if you did your homework, youíll know exactly how much play you have in your budget and what luxuries you can and cannot afford.
