A Guide to Bathroom Vanities
The bathroom vanity
is one of the main focal points in the bathroom, and while they generally consist of a cabinet that holds a sink with space for storage and plumbing underneath, there are many different styles available. If you are giving your bath a complete renovation or are just looking to make a few upgrades, the bathroom vanity
is a critical piece in your design puzzle.Bases
Most bases are made of wood or some kind of laminate. Wood bases are found on traditional, modern and contemporary vanities in various colors and finishes. Laminates are available in many different colors and can even be made to have the look of wood. Other options for the base include natural stone, frosted glass and even stainless steel.
A vanity top can be made of tile, stone, marble, granite, a solid surface, concrete, or any number of other options. If you can use it on your kitchen counters, you can use it on your vanity top. The top should be durable and easy to clean. Certain materials can even be fashioned with a seamless sink to make cleaning easier.
Size And Height
If you are doing a custom remodel, try using vanities of different heights for different purposes. Choose a standard-height vanity for brushing your teeth, shaving, etc., but consider a lower version to use as a makeup vanity that can be used when seated. Lower pieces are also a good idea in children’s bathrooms.
