Galileo Liquid ThermometerThis fascinating, functional instrument is the point at which science meets art. Four hundred years ago Galileo discovered that specifically weighted floating bubbles would predictable rise or sink in a liquid as the temperature of that liquid is changed. These decorative glass reproductions of Galileo's discovery have glass floats precisely weighted in .006 gram increments suspended in a clear, environmentally safe, non-toxic liquid. Simply read the tag on the lowest floating bubble to read the temperature.
The 11 inch, 13 inch, 17 inch, and 21 inch thermometers are available with multicolored floats. The wall hanging thermometers are available with multicolored floats.
You can personalize Galileo's by etching or pad printing the cylinders.

Information & Specifications
Galileo Thermometers are magnificent creations that make Galileo's 400 year old principle of relative density a functional reality. An accurate indoor thermometer encased in brilliant glass, the Galileo is the point at which art meets science. Galileos add sparkle and focus to any setting.
Galileos are precisely manufactured. Each of the liquid-filled floats weighs exactly .006 grams more than the one above it in the cylinder to ensure a stately and orderly procession of ups and downs as the temperature changes. To accomplish this balancing, the tags on which the temperature is marked are attached by had. The fluid in the floats and the cylinder has to be exactly the same density for the thermometer to function properly. The fluid is non-toxic and non-hazardous, an inert oil/hydrocarbon mixture like mineral oil.
Galileos are carefully packaged. The cylinder walls are laboratory grade glass, so sturdiness isn't an issue. A four-color cardboard box sleeve surrounds a form-fitted foam case that virtually guarantees safe arrival. We ship these items ground freight from Missouri.
When you are asked to compare our Galileos with others, the differences are: a) ours have the non-toxic and non-hazardous liquid; b) ours have thick cylinder walls and the clearest glass and liquid available; c) ours have five temperature readings in the small sizes.
How can I present Galileo Thermometers?
"Are you familiar with the Galileo Liquid Thermometers? To tell the temperature, you read the tag on the lowest of the floating balls (demonstrate). This is Galileo's 400-year-old principle of fluid density at work. As the temperature of the fluid in the cylinder increases it gets less dense. As each of the floats, which weigh six thousandths of a gram more than the one above it, reaches its point of specific gravity, it will drop. You then read the tag on the next float, which is now the lowest of the floating batch. As the temperature of the liquid cools, the process is reversed and the floats rise from the bottom of the cylinder.
Answers to frequent questions:
The 11 inch and 13 inch with five floats has temperature gradients of 4 degrees Fahrenheit from 64 F to 80 F, and are accurate to within 2.5 degrees.
The 17 inch measures every 2 degrees from 68 F to 80 F and is accurate to within 1.5 degrees with seven floats.
The 21 inch measures every 2 degrees from 64 F to 82 F and is accurate to within 1.5 degrees with ten floats.
The 17 inch wall hanging version has six floats measuring every 4 degrees from 64 F to 84 F.
