Find Your Perfect Sheet Set
There are a few things you need to know before you start shopping for a set of bed sheets
. Once you know a few key terms, the rest is easy.Thread Count
Thread count refers to the number of threads used per square inch of sheet. The higher the number, the softer the sheets will be. Keep in mind that sheets with a high thread count are more expensive, may not be as long wearing and have a tendency to wrinkle more than those with lower thread counts. A thread count of 350 is typical for a good quality sheet set.
Sheets come in cotton, cotton blends, flannel, jersey, silk, satin and even material made from bamboo. Each has their own characteristics. Cotton is the most popular, but can wrinkle. A cotton-poly blend is more wrinkle-resistant. Flannel and jersey knits are warmer for the colder months, while fabrics like silk breathe better. Luxury fabrics like silk and satin will be more expensive and may require dry cleaning or other special handling.
After you’ve decided on thread count and fabric, you can concentrate on color and pattern. It’s a good idea to buy several sets at a time so you can rotate them as needed. Look for discount sheet sets so you can stock up on a style you love for less money.
