Create A Dorm Room With Style
Most college dorm
rooms look more like jail cells than places to study, relax and live. A few simple touches can have any room looking more like home in no time.
A coat of paint can go a long way in transforming a dorm
room into a livable space. If painting is not allowed, a few vibrant framed posters can do the job. The idea is to bring a pop of color into an otherwise drab space.
And inexpensive area rug can cover a multitude of aesthetic problems while adding color and warmth to the room. They can be used over existing carpeting as well as bare floors.
Proper lighting can dramatically change the look of a room. It is also essential for creating an atmosphere conducive to studying. Table and floor lamps that give off soft, warm light will create an inviting, homey atmosphere. Use task lighting on desks to illuminate study areas.
The focal point of the dorm
is, of course, the bed. Use this as a jumping off point for your decorating scheme. Choose bedding and build the room around that. There are college
bed sheets in many styles and colors--including school colors and logos--that fit the extra-long twin beds in dorm
rooms. Once you’ve chosen your bedding set, take that color palette and use it all around the room.
