Choosing a Specialty Toilet Seat

Wading through the sheer number of choices you have in specialty toilet seats can be overwhelming, but taking stock of your individual needs and desires can help you hone in on a replacement seat that will work well for you.

First, figure out what you need from your toilet seat. Do you live in a place that gets very cold in the winter? A heated toilet seat may be right for you. Do you have difficulty in standing up from a seated position? A raised seat could be your answer. Perhaps you want something that just plain looks nice in your bathroom. There a host of designer seats that would serve your needs.

Budget is another consideration. How much are you willing to spend on a toilet seat? While many replacement seats are budget-friendly, some specialty seats can run as high as the cost of a new toilet. You may have to compromise to get what you want at a price you can afford.

Other things to think about are whether or not you have children in your home. Smaller children can sometimes get injured from slamming toilet lids—in this case you might want to invest in a soft-close toilet seat to protect little fingers.

You may decide that what you really want is a good, comfortable toilet seat that cleans easily and lasts. Those are available too, both in plain and decorative models in case you want to add a little style to your bath.
