Childrens Bedding Buying Guide

DECORATING CHILDRENS ROOMS

Children’s rooms are an opportunity to have some fun with decorating, to follow your imagination—and your child’s imagination—wherever it may lead you. Almost anything goes, as long as you and your child love the finished product.

Finding a theme is often a first step when decorating for kids. Encourage your child to participate in choosing one. A favorite movie, the latest video game or even a favorite sports team all make excellent themes to design a room around. Themes can be general, like princesses or more specific, like Star Wars. With younger children you can usually compromise and follow a more general idea, but older kids may insist on a particular motif.

Once you have a theme, you just need a spark of inspiration to get you going. Bedding can be a wonderful place to begin. College bed sheets can be a jumping-off point for an entire room devoted to your child’s favorite college team. Use the school colors on the walls, the window coverings and in the little details around the room. You can even paint the furniture. Your local paint store may have the school colors premixed, or you can bring in a pillowcase or throw pillow to have them blend a custom match. Use college accessories like replica helmets, wall hangings, posters, wastebaskets and hampers to complete the look.

CHILDRENS BEDDING OPTIONS

Setting up a kid’s room often begins with picking out a special sheet set. There are many different styles and themes to choose from, so finding the perfect set for your child shouldn’t be too difficult. Here are a few guidelines to help you get started.

Involve your child. Unless they are very young, children should get a voice on what sheets they get to sleep on. Have them pick out a favorite character, story or even their favorite colors. This will give you a place to start. Even if your child picks out something you don’t like, there are ways to incorporate their desires without turning over the whole room.

Girl or Boy? While there are many bedding sets that will appeal to both sexes, girls and boys may gravitate to very different styles.

Girls may be looking for something bright and cheerful, something princess themed, or something with animals. What exactly they’re looking for will vary with age. Older girls may shy away from characters.

Young boys may choose more “masculine” themes like trains, cowboys, or even camouflage. Again, it will vary with age. Older boys might not be interested in a theme at all and simply prefer solid colors.

Kids sports bedding can be popular with either sex and is available in a variety of sports themes. Professional teams are well represented, as are major colleges. There are also generic sets that include baseball, basketball, football, and soccer for the avid sports enthusiast.
